James hails from the Northeast, and trained at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School, graduating in 1981, and making his professional theatre debut at The Royal Exchange in Manchester, with Ben Kingsley in ‘Faustus’.
He has since undertaken leading roles in theatre, across the country and in the West End, including ‘Art’, ‘Spamalot’, ‘Mamma Mia’, ‘Billy Elliot’, ‘This House’ and many more.Alongside a full and varied stage career, James has a wealth of TV credits to his name. Best known for his role as prison governor Neil Grayling in ‘Bad Girls’, he was also a regular in ‘Coronation Street’, ‘Backup’, ‘Medics’, and ‘Class Act’.
James is a sports fan, especially boxing, American Football, and his beloved West Ham.When he is not riding his motorcycles, or travelling across Europe, he can be found at home in North London with his wife, Deb.
