She began her professional acting career in 1979 after being discovered by Cameron Mackintosh at the age of 19, going on to play Mary Magdalene in Godspell in London’s West End. This led to appearances in seven West End musicals, including The Pirates of Penzance at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane.
Over the following 20 years, Elaine built an extensive career across theatre, television, film and radio, working with renowned institutions including the National Theatre, Liverpool Everyman and the Royal Exchange Theatre. Her screen and radio work continued throughout the 1980s, 1990s and early 2000s.
Alongside her acting career, Elaine has enjoyed a long-standing and highly respected career in voice work from the 1980s to the present day. She was once one of the leading female voices on the UK ILR circuit, recorded narrative work for The Open University, and was a regular cast member for 14 months in the BBC Radio Midlands soap Hillcrest.
Elaine continues to work regularly with independent producers, bringing warmth, depth and experience to every performance.
