James Gillies

Summary

Scottish, Mature voice, Informative, Professional, Warm

James trained at the RSAMD, now the Royal Scottish Conservatoire. Initially he taught Speech and Drama and Theatre Studies at secondary school level, rising to Head of Drama where he developed some of the country’s first exams in the subject.

Soon he was doubling as a voice artist working for radio and TV stations across the UK. In 1991 he was recruited by the BBC. He became an announcer on TV and radio, read the news and narrated documentaries. He even read the Shipping Forecast and, for three years, he was the IVR and online voice of Sky Television in the UK, Ireland and Scandinavia.

In early 2013, he escaped the BBC and returned to life as a freelance voice artist. Since then, his client list has become extensive. He has recorded television, radio and on-line ads, narrated multiple corporate training videos and e-learning courses for some of the world’s largest companies and NGOs and voiced numerous characters in games large and small.

He has also narrated eighty audiobooks and counting. James recently moved to the Scottish Highlands and built a new studio with views to die for.
